Jonah, I love this! It was so worth the long wait as you get better and better.

I particularly adore kick-ass last sentences, and this one is utterly gorgeous. I read it multiple times to savor its perfection.

I have long suspected that most families are illusions and hope that the one I created with my own children is as different as possible from my original one. It's a rotten way to be wounded.

Every comment feels like a Christmas gift. At least, that's how I imagine Christmas gifts feel. I still plan to marry a gentile to find out myself one day.

I can completely relate to your parental experience, although mine was a much milder version. My mother used to joke around with my younger brother about how if he didn't shape up, he'd have to ride "the short bus." And I thought she made that term up. I love your humorous yet poignant writing style!
